Sentinel is a protectant bio-fungicide registered in New Zealand for the control of Botrytis cinerea, which causes grey mould or bunch rot of grapes and stem rot of tomatoes. Tested and proven commercially Sentinel acts as a preventative botryticide that is certified organic.
In conjunction with the Bio-protection Centre at Lincoln University, Agrimm Technologies Ltd has developed Sentinel from a new strain of Trichoderma, LC52. This beneficial fungus aggressively colonises the foliage, flowers and fruit to protect against the development of botrytis bunch rot on grapes and botrytis stem rot on tomato vines occurring from wounds made after leaf and truss removal. Sentinel actively repels invasion by botrytis from affecting the plant.
Available in a wettable powder formulation, a major feature of Sentinel is its nil withholding period, which allows the grower to apply the bio-fungicide right up until harvest. It is a Bio-gro certified organic product with no negative effects on vintification and it produces no residue on the crop or in wine.
Direct losses attributed to botrytis infection and associated control is estimated to cost the New Zealand grape-growing industry up to $30 million per annum. Although botrytis is renowned for developing resistance to conventional chemical fungicides, no such resistance to Sentinel is likely to occur due to its unique biological activity. In addition, it is a cost effective equivalent to other products on the market with no added premium for the privilege of using such an environmentally friendly product.
Marketed under the Trichoprotection brand, this quality mark ensures growers unparalleled quality and performance.
Be on guard with Sentinel, the proven biological treatment in the battle against Botrytis.
| Crop | Disease | Rate | Critical Comments |
| Grapes | Grey mould Botrytis | 200g in min. 300 litres to max. 500 litres water (66g/100L) to cover 1 Ha. | Start application at 5% cap fall, then repeat at 80% cap fall, pre-bunch closure and verasion. Alternatively, apply at start of flowering and re-apply every 21-28 days thereafter depending on weather conditions. |
| Always apply with Nu Film 17 at 50-60mls per 100 litres water. |
For optimum disease control under conditions of high disease pressure such as during wet or humid weather, alternate Sentinel application with conventional chemical fungicides. Under conditions of latent infection or late disease pressure Sentinel may be applied up until harvest with no withholding period. |

| Tomatoes | Botrytis stem rot | 200g in 500 litres water. | Spray entire crop to run off ensuring all stems are well wetted every 14 - 21 days or soon after leaf or truss removal. |
